Your pre-pickup checklist
Start with security items
Start with anything that opens a door or gate. Pull the garage-door remote from the visor or console. Remove spare house keys, mailbox keys, gate cards, storage-unit keys, and workplace badges. Check every key ring in the cupholder or ashtray. If a remote is built into the mirror, plan to clear it during the electronics reset step.
Pull billing-linked items
Remove the toll transponder before the vehicle leaves. Look on the windshield, dashboard, glovebox, and center console. Then sign in to the toll account and remove this vehicle from the account or close the vehicle listing. Do the same for paid parking apps, airport parking accounts, car-wash memberships, and permit systems tied to the plate or vehicle.
Clear documents and permits
Clean out the glovebox and door pockets. Remove the insurance card, registration, repair receipts, owner notes with addresses, medical papers, school forms, and anything showing an account number. Keep copies of donation-related paperwork in your own file. Parking permits and disability placards should come out now unless a separate instruction tells you otherwise.
Sweep cabin and trunk
Do one slow lap through the interior, then one through the cargo area. Check under both front seats, between seat cushions, seat-back pockets, map pockets, visors, sunglasses holders, the center console, coin trays, and floor mats. Open the trunk or hatch. Look in side bins, the jack compartment, the spare-tire well, tool trays, and any organizer left in the back.
Wipe stored vehicle data
Factory-reset the infotainment system if the screen allows it. Delete Bluetooth pairings, contacts, call logs, text-message access, navigation history, and saved home or work addresses. Clear garage codes stored in HomeLink or similar buttons. If you cannot find a full reset, manually delete each profile and pairing you can see before pickup.
Remove add-ons, leave essentials
Remove personal add-ons only if you can do it without changing the vehicle from what you described. Common items include dash cams, phone mounts, upgraded stereos, GPS units, cargo boxes, child seats, and custom floor mats. Do not strip factory parts or create damage. When the sweep is complete, put the car keys and the signed-over title with the vehicle for the driver.

What if I forget something in the car?
Call Desert Wheels as soon as you notice. If the vehicle has not left your possession, retrieve the item before pickup. After the vehicle is picked up, access may be limited because the car moves through transport and processing. That is why the 15-minute sweep should happen before the keys are handed over.
Should I remove my child seat or phone mount?
Yes, remove child seats, booster seats, phone mounts, dash cams, and loose accessories you want to keep. Remove only items you own and can take out safely. Do not remove factory equipment, required parts, or installed items in a way that changes the car from the condition you reported.
Do I need to clean the car before donation?
No. You do not need to detail the vehicle. Focus on personal property, billing devices, documents, permits, and stored digital data. Trash can be removed if it helps you search, but the main goal is making sure nothing private, valuable, or account-linked leaves with the vehicle.
